Curbar Primary School, (sited just across the river from Calver) is the local school for children aged up to 11 years who live in the parishes of Calver, Curbar and Froggatt. It opened in 1871 (as ‘The National School’). The school is rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.
The school has its own web-site, available here.
Curbar Primary School replaced an earlier school, provided by the owners of Calver Mill between the mid-1830s and 1871. The earlier school was based in the school-house at Stocking Farm, next to the Mill. The building still exists (see picture on right). A short but very interesting history of the Stocking Farm school in Calver is available here.
